Jared Leto / Kurt Cobain

I heard today was the day Kurt passed away 17 years ago. Can’t believe it’s been that long. So grateful for his contribution and inspiration. Not sure I’d be doing this if it weren’t for him. This made me recall a short piece of film I shot when I heard they were making a film celebrating his life. I made it to explore the character and explore creative possibilities.

“I heard today (5th April) was the day Kurt passed away 17 years ago,” wrote Leto. “I can’t believe it’s been that long. I’m so grateful for his contribution and inspiration. I’m not sure I’d be doing this if it weren’t for him. He gave us all permission to create, no matter what our skill set, and reminded me that dreams are possible.”

Speaking at the 2011 Reading Festival, 30 Seconds To Mars frontman and actor, Jared Leto tells Q why Kurt Cobain and Nirvana mean so much to him and why they gave him the "permission to pick up an instrument and create". Look ahead he argues music is still missing the "destructive element" that Nirvana brought to the party. For more videos like this head to http://www.qthemusic.com/promo/q25/
