"Fly Me to the Moon" is a popular standard song written by Bart Howard in 1954. It was originally titled "In Other Words", and was introduced by Felicia Sanders in cabarets. The song became known popularly as "Fly Me to the Moon" from the first line of the B verse, and after a few years the publishers changed the title to that officially. It was covered famously by Peggy Lee, Johnny Mathis, Nat King Cole, Sarah Vaughan, Julie London, Shirley Bassey, Perry Como, Frank Sinatra, Doris Day, Tony Bennett, and m

This is Erroll Garner himself dramatically performing his famous piece. It is everything Liberace's is not. This performance is executed in the style in which he wrote it before the words were composed at a later date.

Look at me,
I'm as helpless as a kitten up a tree
And I feel like I'm clinging to a cloud
I can't understand,
I get misty, holding your hand.

Walk my way,
And a thousand violins begin to play
Or it might be the sound of your hello
That music I hear,
I get misty the moment you

Captured in Sweden 1964. This video is available on DVD from many major music dealers on the web as Erroll Garner in Europe ´63 and ´64. Erroll throws in bits from classical piano works by Debussy, Chopin and others. These pieces he picked up by listening since he didn´t read or write music. He was like a human tape recorder: he heard something, recorded it in his mind and was able to reproduce it on the piano!

The clock stops ticking and creation has to reset itself after Erroll Garner has magically touched the keyboard, altering time with his ambidexterity. There are several delightful recordings of him playing Misty on YouTube. Thankfully, they were well captured with the available electronic media of the time. This rendition though, that Westergren's Genome Music Project identified for me, messes with my internal clock. I had to pull my car over the first time I heard it. He stops time. "My Funny Valentine" was my personal introduction to Jazz Standards. After 10 years of formal classical and religious training on the piano, this song we had begun to practice in high school jazz choir broke so many rules. How were my peers possibly going to sing these weird intervals like the augmented 4th, clashing harmonies, and unconventional chord progressions? The truth was that they didn't do it well, but I was on my way to learning about what we figuratively call the American Songbook. After see

Erroll Louis Garner (June 15, 1921 -- January 2, 1977) was an American jazz pianist and composer known for his swing playing and ballads.

What makes Garner's playing easy to recognize is his trademark introductions, which seem to make no sense until breaking dramatically into his exposition of the tune he will play, and the guitar strumming sound of his left hand, playing crotchet accompaniment to his rich sounding right hand.

Thomas "Fats" Waller and His Rhythm introduced "Jitterbug Waltz" on their March 16, 1942, RCA Victor recording date. "Jitterbug Waltz" was inspired by some piano exercises that Waller's son Maurice had been practicing on the piano. "Jitterbug Waltz" is almost universally performed as an instrumental. Only a handful of vocalists have taken on the challenging melody. There are also lyrics to the Fats waller version as well!

Erroll Garner proved that it was possible to be a sophisticated player without knowing how to read music, that a creative jazz musician can be very popular without watering down his music, and that it is possible to remain an enthusiastic player without changing one's style once it is formed. A brilliant virtuoso who sounded unlike anyone else, Erroll Garner on medium-tempo pieces often stated the beat with his left hand like a rhythm guitar while his right played chords slig

"The Shadow of Your Smile", also known as "Love Theme from The Sandpiper", is a popular song.

The music was written by Johnny Mandel with the lyrics written by Paul Francis Webster.
The song was introduced in the 1965 film "The Sandpiper", with a trumpet solo by Jack Sheldon and later became a minor hit for Tony Bennett (Johnny Mandel arranged and conducted his version as well). It won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year and the Academy Award for Best Original Song.

In 2004 the song finished at #77 in AFI's 100 Years...100 Songs poll of the top tunes in American cinema.

Well-known versions of the song were recorded by Barbra Streisand (on her 1965 album My Name Is Barbra, Two...), singer Shirley Bassey (on her 1966 album I've Got a Song for You), Andy Williams, Percy Faith, Rita Reys, Al Martino, Perry Como, Nancy Sinatra, Astrud Gilberto, Peggy Lee, Charles Manson, Sammy Davis, Jr., Sarah Vaughan and Frank Sinatra.

There were lots of other reincarnations of this song since then.
Erroll Garner and crew recorded it in 1962. I don't have info about the nature of this performance, perhaps a rehearsal or a TV show, but they are really confused playing Samba de Uma Nota So (One Note Samba). This video helps understanding how difficult it was for international musicians to play Bossa Nova.

"I Cover the Watefront" is a 1933 popular song and jazz standard composed by Johnny Green with lyrics by Edward Heyman. The song was inspired by Max Miller's 1932 best-selling novel I Cover the Waterfront. The song became instantly popular, and many artists covered it in 1933. A 1933 motion picture, also inspired by Miller's book and also titled I Cover the Waterfront, was re-scored at the last minute to include the tune.
