Performers introduce their performance of the songs as written by Henry Lawes for the staging of John Milton's Masque, now commonly called Comus, as originally performed at Ludlow Castle in 1634.

Comus is a masque written by John Milton, the greatest English poet besides Shakespeare. Rackham may have felt an affinity to the great poet, as a fellow country-man. The masque is a semi-allegorical portrayal of sin, or temptation, in the character of Comus, and chastity or temperance, in the character of Lady. Despite Comus's attempts to trick Lady into drinking a magical cup (representing sexual pleasure), Lady refuses to give in to the sinful Comus. Comus challenges La

Gorgeous, sad track by the mighty Comus for the fascinating film Permissive from 1970. A shagged out London (shooting mainly in the area just off Tottenham Court Road) and a bewitchingly catatonic heroine make this one of the most captivating time capsules I've ever come across, and probably a pretty accurate one.

Blink and you´ll miss Comus´ appearrance on the big screen, in the 1970 movie "Permissive", performing "Song To Comus" & "The Bite". They also scored the soundtrack (well, part of it).
This film is from an Italian Restaurant near Paddington Station in central London.
The film was shot the 23rd of September, 2007. Glenn shows Mikael the guitar he used when COMUS recorded the album FIRST UTTERANCE. The audience includes three members of Comus + Bobbie Watson's step daughter, Stefan and Mikael, and the restaurant waiter who requests the song Hotel California but Glenn Goring plays some fragments of the COMUS song THE HERALD instead.
